Living in a Land of Amnesia (part 1)
The spirit of the Reformation is the same spirit that went through the mind of Eve as she thought she knew better than God.
Eve said, ‘ A way has been given to me that I now question. A rule has been given that I think is up for debate.’
Luther says the same thing after he sees the many errors of the Pope. Luther says let’s stop these things! The Pope of course, says, ‘No!’. And does Luther decide to take his marbles and go home? No, he decides he will start his own church, his own Bible, and his own rules.
This same spirit continues today as we see the fracturing and fracturing of the unity among those who would call themselves ‘Christian’. We say, “I don’t like this preacher—I’m starting my OWN church!” Or “Those people in that church are mean! I’m going to try another denomination and maybe they’ll see things MY way!”.
So now we feel that when we don’t like the CURTAINS much less the ‘rules’ God has given, we can ignore them and create a church more to OUR liking.
There are now over 200 denominations in America. And grotesquely, even some of those churches dare to repeat the Nicene Creed and say they believe in ‘ONE, HOLY, and CATHOLIC church’ without choking on the hypocrisy.
We live in a land of amnesia. We don’t know what we don’t know. And what we don’t know is what will save the world.
