I (Don't) Know Everything
When I was a kid, I lamented the realization that no matter how many books I read, I would never know everything. To paraphrase the old saying, "So much to know, so little time.".
But as I've grown older, I have come to realize that it is not so much how much you know in this world, but what you know that really matters.
For example, I know:
1. No one gets out alive. This is very helpful when you're wondering if winning an argument at all costs or holding a grudge is really that important. Seek peace.
2. Things don't matter. In an age when you can satisfy the materialistic desires of your heart with the click of a button, it is important to remember that the saying, "The one who dies with the most toys wins.", is a pathetic lie. And,
3. Touching lives and loving one another is why we're here. Pouring yourself into your loved ones and affecting the lives of fellow humans for the better is what makes life meaningful. Live your life in such a way that people will miss you when you're gone.
And MOST importantly, I know God lives. I know He has a plan for me and this world. And that has made all the difference. I don't think materialistically, I think eternally. I don't gather stuff, I collect memories. And I seek to win souls not arguments.
Yes, even though I love to read and I love to learn, I'll never know EVERYTHING. But I know the One who does, and happily & gratefully, He knows ME! And THAT is everything to me! Shalom!
