Surmounting the Insurmountable
Many a sermon has been preached about the boundless love of God. And many a sermon has been preached about the recipient of His love, undeserving, sinful man.
And we are left to marvel at this seemingly insurmountable inequity. A perfect loving God condescending to love and forgive men awash in sin? How can this be? We are stunned that God does not give us what we deserve, for surely we meet out just desserts to our fellow man. This betrays our idea of justice and equity. But God’s ways are not man’s ways and He is quick to forgive a repentant heart. (Psalm 103:8)
We marvel at God forgiving us as we stand in the filthy rags of sin. We say “How could He love someone like me?”. But God created you in His image, and you, through your own will, are the creator of your ‘filthy rags’. God wants to restore you and free you from sins grip. God created you, has a plan for you, and died for you. (Rom. 5:8)
And now He lives and will replace your rags with a robe and crown. (2 Tim. 4:8) He will restore you to a heaven-bound population and give you purpose upon the earth. (Eph. 2:4-5,10) And, no, you don’t deserve it. You will never deserve it. Rather than lamenting that fact, celebrate surmounting the seemingly insurmountable inequity of God’s love for you. And love Him for NOT giving you what you deserve.
